Abstract

OA derajat 4.

Osteoarthritis (OA) is defined as the progressive destruction of articular cartilage that often occurs in
the geriatric population. Risk factors for OA can be divided into two categories: individual-level factors
(age, gender, obesity, genetics, and diet) and joint-level factors (injury, misalignment, and abnormal
loading of the joint). The prevalence of OA includes 50% of patients aged 65 years or older who show
radiographic signs of OA, but only 10% of elderly men and 13% of elderly women show clinical symptoms
of OA, and about 10% of them suffer from OA-related disability. This study aims to determine the
characteristics of knee osteoarthritis patients who underwent TKR surgery at the Surabaya Orthopedic and
Traumatology Hospital in 2022 - 2023. Descriptive research design using purposive sampling method from
secondary data of medical records of knee OA patients undergoing TKR surgery at Surabaya Orthopedic
and Traumatology Hospital. Data were obtained from 120 patient medical records that met the inclusion
criteria. Data were described in the form of frequencies, percentages, graphs, and tables using Microsoft
Excel software. The conclusion of the study was obtained as many as 120 cases whose sociodemographics
had a majority age ≥ 65 years with an average age of 67.25 years, were female, and had jobs as housewives. The distribution of body weight based on BMI, the majority had an obesity category I, and the average
patient weight was 67.53 kg. As for the degree of OA suffered, the majority of patients have grade 4 OA.
